This beautiful chocolate box cottage had sadly fallen into decline. Devon Build was asked to carry out a full renovation and new extension to enable the beautiful cottage to be used as a high end holiday rental unit in the picturesque village of Lee Bay.

This Grade II listed property had been the victim of severe lack of maintenance and inappropriate designed extensions, planning permission was obtained to sensitively repair the cottage and replace the poor quality extensions.

The works to the original cottage were carried out using traditional skills and materials including beech lathes and lime plaster and lime render, cob walls and traditional thatch work, as well as all decorations carried out with traditional lime paints.  

The Architect worked closely with local authorities regarding the extensions and it was agreed that there should be a complete contrast between the old Grade II listed cottage and the newly built extensions.

Devon Build enjoyed working on this unique and challenging project, and once completed Old Maids Cottage went onto become a very successful. award winning holiday rental.
